Our Inventor & Innovation Conferences Experts weigh in on industry topics.

Geoff House - Inventor and Adventurer

What do you do in the industry? I’m a professional designer and inventor, I began the invention consultancy Tricky in 2003 and am based in the UK. What are you working on now? As always, loads of stuff. I work in all categories and I’m open to any ideas that come my way. Basically, I work on whatever takes my interest, I highly recommend it. Why and how did you get into the Toy and Game industry? My University course required me to complete a placement year, so I spent 8 months bothering Hasbro into taking me on. So I quit my career in product design at Apple and Yahoo to pursue my childhood dream. What was your favorite toy or game as a child? I absolutely loved Beanie Babies. I had hundreds of them, and enjoyed hunting for Beanie Babies at local toy stores with my sister, brother, mom, aunts,

I have my consulting company and work as International sales director for PlanToys. I also have my own glass marbles company called Why and how did you get into the Toy and Game industry? I love Smurfs and the day I discovered that the Smurf company was looking to find a partner, I applied right away. What trends do you see in toys or games that excite or worry you? I see that tradition

Rick Gurolnick - Toys, Porsches and Baby Baths

My art is very commercial. Little of the art I have created is “Art for Art’s Sake.” It all had to do with designing a product or presenting an idea or a business. I’ve been an independent designer and inventor of toys and other products for over 30 years now. I know it sounds almost ludicrous, but as a teen I was having more fun playing with and building cars and motorcycles I almost forgot to go to college. I went to a typical business school at a small Midwestern college. I would fix the Residence Assistant’s motorcycle at the dorm I lived in, so I was golden. College seemed to be an opportunity to goof off like I’d never had before! That all came crashing down around me one day while at
