What was your favorite toy or game as a child?
The Schuco plane that I still have in my office.
Why and how did you get into the Toy and Game industry?
Purely by coincidence because a position for a trade-fair professional came up.
What trends do you see in toys or games that excite or worry you?
I find the evolution of technical toys truly fascinating.
What advice can you give to inventors who are presenting new toy or game ideas to you?
To think and see through the eyes of a child!
What advice would you give a young adult graduating from high school or college today?
To go out into the world and learn about different cultures.
What does your typical day look like?
I get up, shower, drive to the office (or airport), answer emails, chair meetings and so the list go on …
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Meeting new and interesting people all the time.
What is the worst job you’ve ever had and what did you learn from it?
Working in construction during the holidays. I learned that I could earn more by using my head.
What and/or who inspires you?
My mother – she was always very encouraging.
Where were you born?
In Bavaria.
What was your life like growing up?
Very diverse, varied and close to nature.
What do you read every day, and why?
Newspapers and newsletters to keep myself in the know.
What is your favorite gadget, app or piece of software that helps you every day?
I take my laptop with me wherever I go.
How do you jumpstart your creativity when you find yourself stalled on a project?
By listening, analyzing, developing.
Are you named after anyone?
No, I’m the total opposite of my name Ernst, which means earnest.
Do you have any kiddos?
Three – they’re all grown up. Now it’s time for the grandkids.
Do you have any pets?
No.
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
I love good food and good wine.
Do you play any musical instruments? If so, which one(s)?
I have done in the past – the piano.
What’s your favorite cereal?
I don’t eat it because I never have breakfast.
What’s the first thing you usually notice about people?
Their eyes.
What is your eye color?
My eye color is brown.
Do you prefer scary movies or happy endings?
I prefer action.

Every season has its upsides.

Both, and in that order.

I like watching the news and reports.
Favorite movie of all time?
“Star Wars: Episode 1”.
What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home?
Sydney is the furthest I’ve ever been on my travels.

I’m good at motivating people.
What are your hobbies?
I have a passion for cooking.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
A pilot – although, I’ve already achieved that goal.
